I am an Associate Professor of Information and Decision Sciences (IDS) in the College of Business Administration at the University of Illinois Chicago, where I also have a courtesy appointment in Computer Science. Before joining UIC, I was a postdoc in the Society and Algorithms lab at the Management Science and Engineering Dept. of Stanford University. I obtained my Ph.D. in EECS from UC Berkeley in 2015. Here is my CV.
My research lies at the interface between AI and the operations of digital economic systems such as online labor platforms and e-commerce marketplaces. On the methodological front, my research explores how tools in statistical and online learning can improve matching efficiencies in such economic systems, focusing on characterizing algorithmic tradeoffs at the interfaces between incentives, learning, and the concerns of fairness and ethics. On the descriptive front, I am interested in understanding processes that influence the outcomes of these economic systems in the presence of AI-assisted market participants.
News: I am excited to teach a new 8-week online course, IDS 569: Reinforcement Learning with Business Applications, in Spring 2025-B. Learn more here.
